Some loads are weighed rather than counted: a pallet of mixed e-waste, a stillage of cables, a bin from a council collection. This guide takes one from the moment it arrives to the commodities you sell, using a real example: a 172 kg mixed load broken down into twelve outputs.
1. Set Up Your Asset Types
- The load itself: an Inbound Asset Type counted in kg, for example "Mixed Electronics" with its Unit of Measure set to kg.
- What comes out of it: one Asset Type for each commodity or item you sort into, for example High Grade PCB, Mixed Steel, Low Grade Cable or Power Supplies. Tick Is a Component (you do not need Is an Inbound Asset Type for these), set the Unit of Measure to kg for anything you weigh, and give each one its EWC Code (European Waste Catalogue code) on the Processing Details tab, so your waste paperwork is right.
- Pallets and packaging: if they are part of the weight you record, set them up the same way, for example Cardboard and Packaging, and Pallet, so the load adds up.
- You do not need a Bill of Materials. A Bill of Materials only fills in a starting list for items you break down the same way every time. A mixed load is different every time, so you type in what came out instead.
2. Book the Load In
- Open the collection or drop-off (Inbound > Collections & Drop-offs > Collections & Drop-offs) and click Book In Items & Lots.
- On the Lots tab, add one line: Asset Type "Mixed Electronics", Quantity 172. Because the Asset Type is counted in kg, the quantity is the weight.
- There is no separate load weight to fill in anywhere else. The lot is the load.
- If the weight includes a pallet or packaging, either take it off before you enter it, or record the pallet and packaging as outputs in step 3.
- A charge per kg is worked out from the quantity of the lots it applies to, so always book a weighed load against an Asset Type counted in kg.
3. Record What Came Out
- Once the lot is in stock, open it (Logistics & Inventory > Items & Lots > Items & Lots) and click Demanufacture / Parts Harvest.
- In the items and materials list, add one line for each thing that came out, with its weight as the quantity.
- Choose where the outputs go, for example your commodity bins, and choose Archive this asset, because the load has been completely broken down.
- Click Confirm Demanufacture / Parts Harvest. RecyclyERP creates one lot for each line, each linked back to the load and to its job.
Our example load of 172.00 kg broke down like this:
| Output | Weight |
|---|---|
| High Grade PCB | 12.66 kg |
| Mid Grade PCB | 1.00 kg |
| Low Grade Cable | 1.40 kg |
| Irony Aluminium | 0.70 kg |
| Mixed Steel | 73.85 kg |
| Aluminium Extrusion | 0.83 kg |
| Power Supplies (no cable) | 16.25 kg |
| Hubs (complete) | 11.00 kg |
| Docking Stations (complete) | 2.00 kg |
| IP Phones (complete) | 28.00 kg |
| Cardboard and Packaging | 5.31 kg |
| Pallet | 19.00 kg |
| Total | 172.00 kg |
4. Watch Out for Units
- A line counted in Units creates one separate item per unit. If "Hubs" is counted in Units, typing 11 creates 11 hub records, not 11 kg.
- For anything you weigh, use an Asset Type counted in kg. For anything you count, enter the count.
- Before you confirm, check that your lines add up to the weight you booked in.
5. Sell the Commodities
- The outputs are ordinary stock. Add them to an Outbound Order to sell them.
- Each output keeps the job it came from, so its sales appear under that job's Outbound Sales button. This helps where you share commodity revenue with your customer.
Commodity Bins Are Not Scrap Locations
In RecyclyERP a scrap location is for written-off stock you are disposing of. Keep commodities you sell, such as circuit boards, cable and scrap metal, in ordinary locations, so they can be picked for an Outbound Order.
